They transfer bauxite from Guyana here. I think it ends up going to Canada on Saguenay ships.

  • I have never seen a ship here. Trinidad would be better off with one Rotterdam-like port instead of these random jetties hugging the coast. It is in a central location, and has lots of energy resources. Proper planning is not in the Trinidadian psyche however.
  • Its not Saguenay it is Alcoa that use this terminal and it was a very important transshipment port for bauxite from Suriname to the States and Europe. Trinidad is a small country and like other small countries they don't need a Rotterdam-like port. Tembadora was a private port and it was in commission from 1948. Many Trinidadians worked on the terminal and on the ships calling there. Ships like the PATHFINDER, PROSPECTOR, DISPATCHER, DISCOVERER, WAYFARER, WANDERER, SENTINEL and CHALLENGER were regulars
