From Doors Open Ottawa:
"The Britannia Water Purification Plant was constructed from 1956 and commissioned in 1959. The facility is one of two water treatment plants that serve the citizens of the City of Ottawa. The 23,000 m2 irregularly shape facility is situated on 18.7 hectares of City property. It draws from the Ottawa River and treats an average of about 200 megalitres of water a day. The plant boasts the first “green roof” on a City-owned facility. It was constructed in the summer of 2007 and is approximately 470 m2, with two more green roof areas, of similar size, scheduled for construction in the summer of 2008. The plant was almost completely re-lamped with high efficiency lighting in 2007 and features water efficient washrooms. The building also participates in an extensive recycling program for glass, paper, plastics, and metal."
