  • The Allendale shopping center still is home to the Allendale Underground, but it's now called Allendale Level One. A few small art installations that were once inside are now gone. "Having a Ball" (1983) by George Rhoads is still there, however the mechanics and golf balls once inside of the installation are now gone, and only the course that the balls used to travel still remains. Having a Ball 1983. Allendale Shopping Center, Pittsfield, MA. National Shopping Centers, Inc. 12'x8'x1' Cited in Winter (Shopping Centers Today) as placed against a glass elevator, allowing viewers to see it while themselves in motion. Cited and illustrated in Kostelanetz (Smithsonian). Noted as having ten organ pipes. http://www.marcdatabase.com/~lemur/rb-rhoads.html It isn't quite as abandoned as it used to be as far as businesses go, and it's cleaner and doesn't smell like funky incense anymore. The new owners really cleaned it up down there.
