  • Typical of estates built as the great planned future for 1960's New Towns. Idea was to integrate local services into a compact centre providing much of the day to day needs of a community; Schools, Doctor, basic shops, Pubs, Post Office. The pub has recently gone after been run down for a long time and more recently burnt out. Shop struggles on in the new out of town shopping era. Unfortunately the houses were not built to last, and a decision will be needed very soon as to how to best means to tackle this. This has been complicated by the fact that most are now privately owned, and the design of the estate is outmoded e.g in handling modern car ownership. I helped try to improve the state of their properties whilst working in the area, but a much larger programme is needed now.
