  • I taught Chemistry in C M College, Darbhanga, during 1959-1960. This was the first job that I had in my life. At that time Dr. Laxmikant Mishra was the principal of the college. The head of the Chemistry Department was prof. Shahi. I used to stay in the Biswas hotel near the Darbhanga tower. Nilmani Mukherjee, Sankar Palit and Ramesh Jha were my good friends. I had a very good time in Darbhanga. People here are very nice and friendly. I also used to visit the Medical college and hospital where my friend Amrit Achari was a resident and my another friend Puspa Ghosh was a medical student.
  • Almost at the end of my stay in Darbhanga I got an opportunity to go with Professor Upadhyay of the Chemistry Department to go to Hathua in Saran District. We were external examiners for Gopeshwar College and we stayed for a few weeks in the big palatial building of the Hathua Maharaj. There was a manager in that building and he had a cook and servants and we really lived like a Maharaja there. Professor Upadhyay went to Darbhanga during the Holi holidays and I stayed alone. A Moslem professor from Hathua College invited me for dinner one day and this was very intersting for me because it was the first time I had homemade meal in an aristrocat Moslem family. After the exams were over I went to Varanasi and Saranth for a visit and then came back to Darbhanga.
  • While I was working in CM College I met Professor Goswami who was the head of the Sanskrit Department. I did not remember exactly how it happened but he became a good friend of mine and when I had time I started to visit him in his office. He was a very knowledgeable person and we use to discuss all kinds of things related to Sanskrit. Then one day Nilmani informed me that Prof. Goswami had died suddenly. He told me that I should go with him to attend the cremation of his body. He was cremated at the bank of the Baghmati River. There I met lots of friends of Prof. Goswami from the town as well as from the college. He seemed to be a very popular man. I was very surprised that his son was not educated and he did not have a very good job. The son performed the cremation ceremony. Later Nilmani informed me that Prof. Goswami could not do anything for his son because the son was not very bright. It was really a sad thing because as long as the father lived, his son had a comfortable life from his income. It seemed that he would have a difficult future from now on because he had a wife and children to support.
  • kudos to have such a quality class college in Darbhanga. Thanks to the administrators & authorities are maintaining its good raport even today. Needless to say that college got its existence well in British era, since the kicked starter it has achieved so many milestones by providing the class downloads to its associates & saw itself growing by leaves & bounds as making enormous number of scholars proffessionals & blaahhhhhhh
