Small island (1x1Km)in the Southern Archipelago just outside of the city of Gothenburg (Gotebörg), Sweden. This is the South west coast of Sweden. Originally used as a trading outpost for the Vikings from 800 - 1200's.

Once Gothenburg was officially chartered in the 1600's and the city developed as a major port, the local ship pilots established an outpost. By stationing a watchman at the "outlook" on the peak of one of the hills signals from Vinga, the outer-most island would signal the arrival of a ship and the pilots would race out to get the job of piloting the ship into the harbor.

Now a days, the island has a population of around 750 people year-round with the population swelling to nearly 3,000 in the summer as the island boasts nice beaches and many summer homes.

The permenant residents are an interesting mix of artisans and craftsmen: many writers, musicians and other performers along with many, newer "nouveau riche" folks who are escaping the city and building palatial homes to the amusement/dismay of the older established residents.

A wonderful place to live.
