Okino-Erabu Shima

The two main towns/villages are China and Wadomari. China is the town on the Southwestern part of the island and Wadomari is on the Northeast part of this island.
Okino is approximately 4 miles long by 3 mile wide. The population is approximately 2,000.
The United States had a radar site on this island from the mid 1950's through the 1980's.
The site was located at the islands highest point, at 845 feet above sea level.
Okino is part of the Ryukyu Island Chain which stretches from Okinawa to the southern tip of mainland Japan. The geology and topography are made up volcanic rock with hills that lead down to its pristine beaches.
