Name of the Barangay derived from a flowering tree called Ilang-ilang with great essence and used as perfume by extracting oil from it. Before, it was part of Barangay Palsara, Lipa City. When Balete, became a town in the early 70's, Alangilan was separated from previous barangay and was proclaimed a new barangay with its current name.
