Becouse of it's location, it played a very important role in the defense of the city. On 1815 the fortress was built and ever since has been it has played an important role during the occupations that the city of Puebla has suffered. During the battle of may 5th. (Cinco de Mayo)1862 It was occupied by the mexican troops comanded by General Barriozabal.On 1933 the works of restoration begun., to install in this fort the Museum of Military History under care of the National Institute of Anthropology and History.
