Cherkizovo (Moscow)

Russia / Moskovskaja Oblast / Druzhba / Moscow
invisible, historic district, do not draw title

The historic area of Moscow.
Administratively, it falls into Preobrazhenskoye district of Eastern Administrative Okrug of Moscow.

Cherkizovo is the oldest neighborhood of the Preobrazhenskoye district. The first texts and descriptions of this date back to Metropolitan Alexei (1377), who gave the name to Serkizovskoye (that's what it used to be called) after the nearby Chudov Monastery. The document written in Slavonic (the language that the Church uses) was found only in 1779 in the archives of the Miracle Monastery.

In the center of the main village the Ilyinskaya Church had been erected, but it was burned down during the Dark Times. It was restored in 1646.
