This pond is being protected from unlawful encroachment by local residents, who have formed a committee - Parivesh Suraksha Commitee. This movement began in Feb 2002 and is still continuing. In the year 2005, part of the pond has been fenced off through funds allocated by the local MLA (Dhakuria const.). The residents have also cleared the road running along the pond - Central Road, of unlawful parking by trucks and are maintaining a bamboo fence to protect the pond from littering.
