Xinghai Square is located in the commercial center of Xinghai Bay. With the total area of 45,000 square meters is the biggest municipal public square in Asia.
In the center stands a 19.97-meter-high, 1.997-meter-in-diameter white marble ornamental column. It was erected in 1997 to commemorate the return of Hong Kong.
The square centre looks like a star, with 999 red marble bricks paved on the ground, surrounded by nine big ancient Chinese vessels and five great Chinese lanterns.
As night falls, lamps on the stone pillars lighten the main street. The lamps, every 20 meters each, are in the shape of the navigation light.
