This house was built in the 17th century. At the time, Rue Saint-Martin was the only route into Caen from Bayeux and Brittany. Today, however, it is a much quieter street, as through traffic has been diverted via Rue Guillaume-le-Conquérant ["William the Conqueror Street"], built in the 18th century.
