Al Yahar is a town located about 29 kilometers from the city of Al Ain, and about 130 kilometers from the city of Abu Dhabi. It is named Al Yahar (Al Jahar) because of the low lands surrounding areas where the sand dunes encircle the city from all sides.

As the people of the region pronounce the "J" as "Y" the city name is know as Al Yahar instead of Al Jahar.
