This windmill is a tower mill, dating frm 1743. That is, most of the mechanism is built into a fixed tower, brick in this case, with only the cap of the tower turning with the sails to face the wind. The miller lived in the base of the tower, while the mill itself was several stories up, with two millstones driven through a wooden gear train. The mill is able to grind over a ton of grain per day.
