 park, interesting place, historic landmark

Pope John Paul II was energized by his Tuesday evening rally with over 400,000 youth in the Sykhiv neighborhood of Lviv. The audience had started gathering at 2 p.m. for musical performances and inspirational talks before the Pope’s arrival at 6 p.m.

An occasionally heavy rain reduced the crowd and left many drenched, but it did not dampen spirits. The 81-year-old pontiff drew loud cheers from the youth when he departed from his prepared remarks to reassure them “Let the rain fall, the children will grow” and then later to sing a Polish verse to keep the rain away.
