The old waiting room at the north end of the station, has a spiral chimney, perhaps the only one like it in New Zealand?

  • The Ohakune railway station was built in 1908 and was the southern railhead while the maintrunk railway was being built between Ohakune and Raurimu. The northern end was recently destroyed by fire and has since been rebuilt to the original design.
