Lake Okataina is the northernmost and largest of four smaller lakes lying between Lake Rotorua and Lake Tarawera in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island.

A picturesque lake surrounded by forested hills. The main road in to Lake Okataina ends at a small beach, boat ramp and a lodge. There are walking and tramping tracks around the area, and small beaches around the lake. A basic campsite is located on the far side of the lake, reachable by a 3 hour walk.

The beach near the road has toilets available, and there is a fairly large area where it is shallow enough to swim safely before the lake gets very deep. A wonderful location.

The road to the lake is narrow and windy, but sealed.
