Old Anglo-Saxon village of 'Middletone' dating from before the Domesday Book but presented to the 'De Chahaignes' family by William the Conqueror in return for support in his conquest of England. 'Middeltone De Chahaignes' subsequently became 'Milton Keynes' and this small village was chosen in 1967 as the name for the 'New Town' of Milton Keynes in North Buckinghamshire.
