Lake Tappan is a drinking-water reservoir formed by a dam placed on the Hackensack River by the Hackensack Water Company (now United Water New Jersey) in 1967. It straddles the border between River Vale and Old Tappan, New Jersey, and extends north past the New York state border and into Orangetown, New York.
A Civil Air Patrol airstrip just south of Veterans Memorial Drive was submerged in the building of the reservoir.
