fire service, place with historical importance, mill
Historic woolen mill built circa 1820s. During WWII, Uxbridge Worsted Co. became famous for its "Uxbridge Blues", the fabric used for Army uniforms. The mill was later converted to a business complex. When it burned on July 21, 2007, the 350,000 square foot complex was housing 65 businesses. Over 400 firefighters from approximately 50 different departments responded but were unable to save it. The event caused a devastating impact to the local community, both financially and historically.
