Hewell Grange is a Category D adult male open prison.rnrnIt was built by the Earl of Plymouth as a family home between 1894-1904. It became a Borstal in 1946, and held Young Offenders until 1991 when its role was changed to house Category D adult men.rnrnThe Hewell Grange estate contains HM Prisons Blakenhurst and Brockhill. The buildings and some of the gardens are Grade II listed.rnrnGovernor: Ian EvansrnrnOperational Capacity: 175 as of 10th May 2005rnrnAccommodation: Dormitory accommodation in main house, plus limited single room accommodation in Hostel .rnrnReception Criteria: No arson, sex offences, or convictions under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. No Serious violent offences/ Schedule 1 offences (prior consultation required). Any sentence length including life sentenced prisoners who are referred via Lifer Unit. Parole prisoners with at least 10 months to PED unless all parole documentation is complete. Up to two years to serve, with a minimum of three months remaining. No outstanding court appearances or charges. Must be medically fit and willing to work (part-time medical cover, with no in-patient facilities), no outstanding medical appointments outside of the local area. Only controlled epileptic and diabetics accepted, able to negotiate stairs, no prisoners who have been referred for self harm on current sentence, unless by prior arrangement. No prisoners referred for psychiatric assessment. Sentence planning documents must be up to date, and initial OASys completed. There are circumstances where prisoners outside this criteria may be considered, but this must be in consultation with Hewell Grange.rnrnRegime: Regime includes provision of farms and gardens and workshop places, community work and full time employment on Resettlement scheme.
