  • We were once residents of sweet Bagerhat, the most favourite place of this earth to me. We still remember the memories of this small town. My father Kshitish Chandra Das was a teacher of Sammilani School. We lived at Amlapara. There are foot steps of my family, spreading on each road and lane of Bagerhat. I still smell the air of Bagerhat. I remember the names of my friends who were my companions in the days of joy & sorrow.

  • This city’s name broadly taken means ‘habitat of tigers’ but the literal meaning for bagh is garden or tiger, and hat is market place. This meaning aptly describes the physical condition of this low mangrove forest, which was inhabited by the Royal Bengal Tiger. Founded by legendary warrior–Saint Ulugh Khan Jahan in the early fifteenth century, Bagerhat later become a mint town of the independent Sultans of Bengal and was called Khalifatabad. Khan Jahan is considered one of the main torchbearers of Islam in the south of Bengal and built hundreds of mosques and public structures. Among those, 60-domed mosque is the biggest brick-made mosque in Bangladesh. Today, Bagerhat is being developed as a tourist spot but the tomb of Khan Jahan still remains a center of pilgrimage. This Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat is declared as a world Heritage site in 1985.

We were residing at Saltala at the heart of the town. I have numerous and sweet memories with this school. Mr Kaliprasad Chottopadhya (KPC), Saheb Ali Sir, Khan Saheb, Jalal Sir, Keshob Babu (My most favourite Sir), Fani Babu, Manindra Babu, one Sanskrit teacher (name I unable to recollect), Babu Miyan, Sashanka Babu, Soharab Sir (he is a friend of my elder brother and my neighbour) were the teachers at our school life from Class V to Class X). I took part in annual drama and sports in school. Out of my friends I must mentioned the names of Mustaq Ali (Khokon), Kamal, Baby, Safiq (Khokon), Zobair (Noma), Kochi, Tanujee etc. My most charming part of my life is with this high school. I love this shool very…. very much. This produces a lot of scholars.
