Gerlach Peak:
(Slovak: Gerlachovský štít meaning "peak of [the village] Gerlachov") or – based on the colloquial or old name – Gerlach Peak (Slovak:Gerlach) is the highest peak in the Tatra mountain range, in Slovakia and in the entire Carpathian mountain range.
Former names: Gerlach (original name; until 1896), Franz Joseph Peak (1896–1919), Peak of Legionaries (1923–ca. 1932), Stalin Peak (1949–ca. 1959). Polish names: Gerlach, Gierlach, Garłuch; Hungarian: Gerlachfalvi-csúcs; German: Gerlsdorfer Spitze.
Climbing this peak is permitted only with a certified mountain guide. The hut Sliezský dom is the most typical starting point. The best time to climb the peak is July-September.
