This is where some of the best stone was quarried for the great Somerset churches. Doulting's own church dates from the late middle ages and is elaborately detailed in classic Somerset style. It has an octagonal tower and spire. The village also has a sizeable medieval tythe barn and many other old buildings constructed in the warm coloured local stone.

The main drawback of the place is the traffic that thunders through on the A361
