Lincoln Park has the distinction of being the oldest park in Long Beach.
Originally known as Pacific Park, the area was officially designated as a park on the original townsite of Long Beach in 1888.

In 1908 Andrew Carnegie donated funds for the construction of the old Long Beach main library in the park. The library was destroyed by fire in 1972. The new main library opened in the spring of 1977.

The parks' cannon was shipped from the Benicia Arsenal in 1915 for the dedication of the park to the Veterans of the Civil War, and the unveiling of the statue of Abraham Lincoln. The name of Pacific Park was officially changed to Lincoln Park in 1920.

In 1964 a Japanese garden was designed in the park as a tribute to Long Beachs' sister City, Yokkaichi, Japan.

Lincoln Park is the home for the City Hall of the City of Long Beach.

  • I think they should change the name to "Eleanor" Park. Or maybe "Halicki" Park. If you know what I mean, you're probably much cooler than the average Wikinerd.
  • I've heard references to this in 1986 as being Needle Park.
