Also called the Montlake Fill, it is an excellent locale for birdwatching as well as walking, running or biking. This used to be a dump, but it is covered with an impermeable clay layer (so that rain water does not seep through the garbage). Portions of the site are continually being restored or researched by University of Washington students from various fields.
