  • Betur- One of the Oldest village in bankura district. A historical place .One very big monument called Betai, is situated here. according to state aerceoligist this monument is1200 years old.But Who has created this monument is not known. The monument is 90 feet long and 30 feet wide.But the entire monument is in very bad shape. Betur is being named from Betai. The eastern side of Betai is called Dhamsadanga which was formerly called Dharmasardanga is being erected by King ashoka , according to local belief. In the time of Indian Indipendence this small village took a great role. this place was used as underground for the Swadesh activisti. Later Number of activist has been arrested by the British Police. The oldest durga puja is still on the card in Sarkar Para.which is 550 Years old.

  • Betai, Betur- It is an Unique Historical Place. Number of sandstones are placed with one after another. The Entire monument looks like an Un finished shrine. The local people thought the demon Kalapaher has destroyed this shrine. these local people pray here as betaichandi. But It is true that the Concept of Chandi puja is not more than 700 Years old. But As per Aercheologist the betai Shrine is more than 1200 Years old> So the Chandi theory is not proven. Every Year at the time of Durga Navami, a large number of deities are gathered with there offerings Puja and crackers. In side the Shrine there r lot of small pieces of hindu Goddes sculptors.Like Goddes Visnu, Sun, Shiva-Parvati, Kartik, devi Saraswatii and others. Along with one Multicut Shivalinga. One Big Black stone Lamp is here. Which is 4 feet by 2 feet long. Is it a lingam? or really a lamp? one lotus of Sand Stone. Adjacent of this shrine a big pond is here called Betai Pond.Couple of years back the local villagers started digging this betai pond and found several pieces of small stone sculptors.No one there to protect this historical place. more Information-monojit sarkar(tutumono@rediffmail.com)
  • this is true that kalapahar was a worse demon. but the full route of this demon is yet to known. In orissa sun temple of konarak was under his attack and bankura is not far from konarak. especially bisnupur was famous for its temple and otthers. May be betur was under his attack. the supply line of history of this period and area is cut off main stream of history.
  • All though it is a small village but it is a historical village . A lot of villagers had participated in freedom strugel movement But it very shamefull insident that after geting independenc the village has been negelated , no deveopment has take place like road , electricity , sanitation etc , beside it there is an acqute unemployment problem in this village . I want a fast and steady development of my village
  • In 2012 early september betur has lost two Idols from Sarkar para mandir. No one is Arrested. Both the Idols are made by Brass gold and other elemen nava data. Radha Krishna image. Of 1200 years old. monojit

  • Ashis (Tarun) Ghosh It is understood from the book 'BISHNUPUR KAHINI' a heavy to heavy destructive cyclonic storm passed away over this area in the year 1565 or near this year.could not clearly remember.Most probably, the Temple was destroyed by the hit of storm. In addition to that I would like to bring to the notice to the 'BETUR LOVERS' that there was a famous historical business place and small Port in Howrah near the juncture of 'The Ganga & The Damodar named by BETOR. The then Muslim rulers and later East India Company used this as a big Trade center. Old inhabitants of BETOR used to worship.Betai Chandi . At present also Betai Chandi is worshiped in Betor. Local peoples cannot say how long is old this Puja. My think is that most probably,being anticipated the attack of KALAPAHAR, somebody of then Betur village took away the original Idol of Betaichandi and went away in a hidden place by the River Domodar. Because the Damodar is most near by river of Betur. They kept the Image of Ma Betaichandi in secret place near the jmuncture of Ganga & Damodar. Later on by the name of Betaichandi this place get known as 'BETOR,. It is historical proofed that Idols of Pravu Jagannath,Balaram & Suvadra kept hidden under earth so many years to protect from the wrath of Muslim rulers. . .
