After beginning life as the old Consolidated Film Corp., the studio was purchased by the National Broadcasting Company and became the NBC west coast network headquarters for their popular radio broadcasts. In 1938, NBC moved to a new studio at Sunset & Vine.

Capitol Records original studio opened in the fall of 1948 at this location. It had 3 studios, one on the main floor and two on the lower level. During Capitol Records' first 6 years of existence (1942-1948), the label used two studios. This one and one in New York City.

For many years, the building housed the studio for KHJ-TV, until it was purchased in the 1990's by the Walt Disney Company, and its station name was changed to KCAL.
Since Disney's acquisition of the ABC Network (and its local affiliate, KABC, Channel 7) forced them to sell KCAL (to CBS), the station once again has new owners, but the call letters remain the same.

Recently home to KRTH, yes, this was the site of the legendary 93 KHJ "Boss Radio" studios in the 1960's.

As of 2010, official info from Paramount shows this building is their security building, and makes no mention of K-RTH any more.

  • It actually had four studios. Two upstair which were A & B. They were large audience studios designed for NBC. Studio A is where Frank Sinatra recorded many of his best Capital albums. Downstairs contained two smaller studios, C & D. Studio C was also used by Sinatra as well as Nat King Cole. When KHJ TV moved into the building sometime in the early 1960s, they subdivided the two large upstairs audience studios using them for control rooms and offices.
