Zoo and Botanic Garden

Changchun Zoo and Botanic Garden lies in the southeast part of Changchun, 500 meters to the east of People's Street and 3 kilometers away from the People's Square. It occupies an area of 74 hectares.

This park was built in 1938 and its first phase was finished in 1940. At that time, it was called the First Zoo in Asia because of its large coverage and various kinds of animals and plants. However, on the eve of the liberation of Changchun, the park was seriously destroyed.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the municipality allocated fund to rebuild the park. In 1984, the reconstruction was completed.

On September 15, 1987, the park was formally opened to people. A man-made lake divides the park into three parts. Animals and plants located in the east and north part of the park respectively.

There are dense forests, rare birds and animals, exotic flowers and rare herbs can be enjoyed by visitors.
