Hooghly , District Chuchura (Chinsurah) was a Dutch colony as early as the 16th century. The British later took over the town. The place is dotted with numerous historical relics and is famous as well for its cultural heritage. Chuchura is the administrative headquarters of the district of Hooghly. Some historical places of interest are: The Armenian Church, Dutch Cemetery (Gorosthan), Temple of Swandeshwar, Hooghly Mohsin College, The District Court Building, Joraghat, Imambara, Bandel Church etc.
