DME Railroad Missouri River Bridge

USA / South Dakota / Fort Pierre /
 railway bridge  Add category

1907 saw the Chicago and North Western complete this bridge as part of a line to Rapid City. The swing span is believed to be locked in the closed position, and unable to reopen. The Chicago & North Western sold this line on September 4, 1986 to the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad. Traffic should increase dramatically if DME's planned Powder River Basin Project is completed. The last regular passenger service over this bridge was the C&NW Dakota 400, which lasted until the end of October 1960. America's railroads built 32 crossings over the Missouri River, of which 23 remain in use.
