Vikramshila ancient University (Kahalgaon)

Vikramshila was a University as ancient as Nalanda and Takshila Universities.Takshila has now gone to Pakistan. Buddhisht literature was taught in this University.This place is now under Bhagalpur District of Bihar.It has also a railway halt. I once visited the ruins of this University. The nearby people seemed to be generous.They offered me sugar cane juice to drink. A sugar cane crushing machine was in use there.
When I was going round a stupa, one man clad in dirty dhoti-kurta accompanied me. He seemed to be illiterate . He said though he lived at a distance of 4-5 kms. from this place he could not visit before. It was his good luck that he met with a person like me.
In course of our talk he told Prof.Maxmular opined that when world was in know of five
figures Bharat was in know of Mahashankh. He further narrated the episode of Mahabharat and explained about Maniar Math of Rajgir in detail.I did not ask his credential but could gather that he was a very learned man. I saw several items which were recovered in the exavation and stored nearby in a small room.
