When it was installed in 2007, the IBM Blue Gene/L supercomputer cluster was briefly the most powerful on-campus supercomputer in the world, and the 6th most powerful of all supercomputers at that time. As of 2012, a comparably-ranked system would be based on IBM Blue Gene/Q nodes and have an Rpeak value perhaps 20 times the RPI system.
