  Kustanayskaya podstancia or Kustanay substation in English. The first true 1150 KV substation from the original installation from the 1980's. The 500 KV field occupies the Northwestern half of the fenced off area, while the 1150 KV occupies the Southeastern half. When you zoom in you can see that the 1150 KV line going out to Chelyabinsk is still under 500 KV as it is not terminated in the 1150 KV field. In fact it doesn't even carry any power at this end, since there seems to be a temporary tap and straight link to the 500 KV field just North of the nothernmost corner of the fence, just beyond the small bush. In the Southern part of the 1150 KV field you can find the three large shunts terminating the outgoing 1150 KV line to Kokchetav and the three very large 1150/500 KV step-down transformers of 2000 MW capacity separating both fields near the central control building. These transformers weigh something like 400 tons a piece! Also notices the 1150 KV busbars, line breakers, switchgear, control and safety apparatus mounted on isolator "towers" some three stories high. It is reported that the electric field around bus bars and switchgear is so strong that St Elmo's fire can be seen at night, a pink glow in the dark of electrically charged particles. No doubt when the line to Chelyabinsk is upgraded to the nominal 1150 KV the layout will be sort of mirrored by the additional hardware to be installed in the empty area with the four dark spots.

  Подстанция является частью передачи 1150кВ Экибастуз - Урал, на данный момент все линии 1150кВ и подстанции работают на напряжение 500кВ.

  Это ПС Кустанай 1150кВ. Сокол дальше, за Рудным..
