Schöner Brunnen (Nuremberg)

Germany / Bayern / Nuremberg
fountain, Gothic (architecture), interesting place, listed building / architectural heritage

("Beautiful Fountain")

Nurembergs most famous fountain was built from 1385-96.
The fountain is 19 metres of height and made to look like the top of a church tower.

On the south-western side of the fountain is a metall ring includet into the fountains grating that is said to be a good luck charm (you have to rotate it 360 degrees and make a wish).

As the ring is high up in the metall fence surrounding the Schönen Brunnen and is the same colour it was hard to spot. So a second ring ring got installed in shiny metall which can be easily spotted by the tourists. Quite obviously this new ring is no a lucky charm but just an advertising gag.

Actually the fountain found at the marketplace today is a copy from 1912. The original fountain built by Heinrich Beheim in 1396 was transferred to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in the 20. century.
