History:
1999 US auto giant Ford opened a factory in Santa Rosa, Laguna and had invested $270 million with 36,000 vehicles per year.

The company had exported more than 80,000 vehicles worth $1 billion over to Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia since 2002.

Ford is to close its vehicle assembly plant in the Philippines by the end of 2012, with the loss of 360 jobs, as part of an ongoing restructuring across Asia.
The decision will leave the country without a Ford motor vehicle exporter, Ford Group Philippines Pres. Randy Krieger said in a statement.

Ford sold the factory to Mitsubishi, who will transfer its old factory in Cainta here.
