Mother Rudd Tavern was one of the first permanent structures erected in Warren Township. It was built in 1841 as an inn, at the halfway point in the trip from Chicago to Milwaukee. In 1850, when Warren Township was established, it became the area's first town hall, and served as a voting place, post office and dance hall.

Today, the Tavern is a museum, maintained by the Warren Township Historical Society. Rooms on display in the house include a 1930s kitchen and a 1900 bedroom. The recently re-mortared barn foundation behind the house is believed to have been a station of the Underground Railroad.
