Mogmog (also spelled Mogamog) is an inhabited island on the northern fringe of Ulithi Atoll. Mogmog is the seat of the high chief of Ulithi Atoll.

This island was a recreation base for Navy personnel from ships in the lagoon during WW2.

  • I served with Air Group 11 aboard U.S.S. Hornet CV-12 and I will never forget our brief visit to Mogmog Island... either late 1944 or early 1945. Just to have my feet on good old "terra firma" for a few hours was a treat indeed.
  • No western cloth allowed on the island. Bare-chest compulsory even for out-comers.
