Falalop

Micronesia / Yap / Fais /

Falalop is an island, and is considered part of Ulithi Atoll, though it lies outside the atoll boundaries. Falalop is the most accessible of the inhabited islands, with an air strip, a small resort hotel, gas dealership, store and one of three public high schools in Yap state.

The island was given the code name Ameliorate by the allies. The island was occupied by an element of the U.S. Army's 81st Infantry Division on 23 September 1944. The airstrip on Falalop was promptly built and the first airplane, a C-47, landed on October 27th. The anchorage in the adjacent atoll could hold up to 700 ships.
