Built as part of the expansion of the Watertown Arsenal during World War I, Building 311 was once one of the largest steel-frame structures in the United States. In the latter part of the 20th century, it served as part of the United States Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center. In 1995, it was converted to civilian use.
