The Światowid tower was built in 1938-39. The plans to equip it with an elevator were first stopped by the outbreak of the second world war and not accomplished until 1966. This tower functioned for 5 years. Every year circa 60.000 people travelled using its lift. Then it was put out of use due to the detructive force of the sea. Finally, on the night from 6 to 7 january 1982 it collapsed. Its remains can still be seen at the end of Promenade of Światowid.
