Cathedral Gardens is an open space within Manchester City Centre, in North West England. It is bounded by Victoria railway station to the north, Chetham's School of Music to the west, the perimeter of Manchester Cathedral and The Triangle on Fennel Street to the south and Urbis to the east. Manchester's Cathedral Gardens, is often used as a hang out place for subcultural teenagers such as emo kids, goths, and moshers. The congregation is at its peak on Saturdays and during school holidays with several hundred. Recently Manchester City Council and local businesses (including the verger of the adjacent St Mary's Cathedral) have sought a dispersal order to remove these young people, whom they accuse of anti-social behaviour. There is also an irony in the dispersal - It is part of the city's culture which Urbis celebrates in their idea of an Urban city. There is a proposed plan to turn the area into a beach very recently altho several groups have been set up against the plan such as A.T.U.B.G and urbis SANDCASTLE RIOTS!
