Albany High School opened in 1868 as the Albany Free Academy. Prior to 1974, Albany had two comprehensive high schools, Albany High School and Philip Schuyler High School. That year, the institutions were merged to form the "new" Albany High. It has an enrollment of about 2,600 students, is an International Baccalaureate World School, and offers 19 Advanced Placement courses.
