Gierle is a sub-municipality of Lille in the Antwerp Kempen in Belgium. Gierle was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977.
Gierle was first mentioned in 1259, as Ghirle which means something like a grove on raised sandy ground near a muddy ditch. Gierle belonged to the Land of Turnhout during feudalism. Gierle initially formed one parish, together with Tielen.
