An incorporated municipality and popular summer destination located on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Settled in 1833 by Englishman Thomas Need, Bobcaygeon was incorporated as a village in 1876 and while retaining it's unique character, became part of the city of Kawartha Lakes on January 1, 2001. Taken from the Algonquin language, the name Bobcaygeon means "shallow rapids".
Lock #32, the first to be built on the Trent-Severn Waterway, is located in the centre of town. Population is estimated at 3000.
Special attractions include fishing tournaments, Ontario's oldest fall fair, Canada's premier Ontario Open Fiddle and Step Dance Contest, Kawartha Settler's Village, Boyd Heritage Museum, artists, artisans workshops and galleries, and Pigeon Lake Yacht Club.
