In its early days as the estate attached to the Bramhall Hall, much of the surrounding area was open wooded parkland stocked with deer, cattle and horses. You can still see the evidence of this in the form of a sunken ditch along the edge of the grass facing the entrance to the Hall. This ditch, known as a ‘ha-ha’, was used to prevent the animals from approaching the house. The park used to be the parkland and woodland estate attached to Bramall Hall. Today the Hall is still one of Cheshire’s grandest black and white timber framed buildings dating back to the 14th century. The Davenport family lived here for over 500 years but it was Charles Neville who re-modelled the park into the landscape you see today. A keen engineer, Neville created the park’s ponds in the 1890s by altering the course of the Lady Brook. The lakes are no longer fished but they are still enjoyed by many visitors.
Most parts of the park are wheelchair accessible. The car park has 2 disabled parking bays. There are benches near the pond and a few around the park. There is a disabled toilet available. Assistance dogs are welcome in the park.
Bramhall Park Golf Club was first opened in the early 1905. It is enjoyed by a lot of people.
