Formerly known as the Warner Bros. Hollywood Theatre, it was designed by G. Albert Lansburgh and opened on April 26, 1928. A semi-atmospheric theatre with Moorish, Rococo, and Renaissance Revival elements, it was the flagship of the Warner Brothers Studio Theatres. The building also contained KFWB's radio transmitters, a station organized by Sam Warner in 1925. It was moved here in 1928 from its former location at the Warner Bros. Studios when it was discovered that RF was interfering with the studio's "talkies" sound equipment.

USC's Entertainment Technology Center tested digital projection equipment in the building from 2002 until 2006. A church now meets here on Sundays. Due to damage sustained during the Northridge quake, the balconies remain inaccessible.

Although sightings have tapered off over the years, it is allegedly haunted by the ghost of Sam Warner.
