This is a very remote leper hospital and colony that's only accessible by way of the Amazon river. There are river tours that stop here. Also, I think Che Guevara stopped here. At least, the movie, The Motorcycle Diaries would have me believe that.

    yeh he did. he and his companero Alberto Granado did voluntary work in the colony and interacted very much with the lepers.

    Che Guevara definitely stopped here. Just reading his book 'The Motorcycle Diaries' now. He stopped and stayed two weeks. The patients had an impromptu concert just before he left and he spoke of the accordian player with no fingers who played with sticks attached to his hands. The patients also collected up what to them would have been a large amount of money and gave it to Che and his travelling companion, Alberto, as they had gone through much of their money at this point in their travels. The patients also built them a raft that they named 'Mambo Tango', which took them up the Amazon on their way to Leticia.
