An Unusual Garden Ornament. These columns and carved stone were transported from Leptis Magna in Libya, North Africa to Great Britain in 1816.
The pieces were stored at the British Museum. In 1826 they were erected here as garden ornaments by the architect Sir Jeffry Wyatville. Since the 1950s the ruins have been fenced off from public access for safety reasons.
